Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    COIN’s Dr Wal Taylor has recently returned from his invitational visits to two exciting world summits on the information society.

    The first, World Summit on Cities and Local Authorities in the Information Society, was held in Lyon, France, and was attended by about 1700 delegates including elected mayors and presidents from more than 250 local governments from across the globe.

    CQU ended 2003 with 55,000 staff, students and alumni from 121 countries, according to figures submitted to the federal government recently.

    The figures from the August 31 census showed student numbers of 21,351, including 12,436 Australians and 8915 international students.

    CQU Rockhampton will host the Queensland Cancer Fund\'s Relay for Life (RFL) event again this year, on May 15-16 at the athletics track.

    Last year\'s inaugural Rockhampton RFL attracted 48 teams, included 572 participants and raised more than $100,000.

    She recently attended a presentation evening at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition centre, as one of 10 members of the 2003 judging panel for the awards.

    Vice-Chancellor Professor Glenice Hancock is welcoming two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors to the university this week: Professor Jim Mienczakowski, DVC (Academic and Resources); and Professor Jack Wood, DVC (International and Corporate) started work on Monday.

    The three DVCs, the Registrar and Chief Compliance Officer (Ken Window) and the Vice-Chancellor will be meeting extensively this week to develop their working relationship and to set early targets for the overall management of the university.

  • Staff munch towards charitable donation

    Division of Teaching and Learning Services staff member Karen Reynolds has presented $1000 to the Children's Leukaemia and Cancer Society, thanks to the healthy appetites and generous hearts of her fellow workers.

    The money has been raised via a 'social club', for which Karen uses her own time to purchase drinks and snacks.
