First-year physics student Joelene Buntain is keen to complete her tertiary studies - even though a career as a pilot is already opening up.

It's a degree decision that might even help take her into space.

A range of CQU staff members are involved in a Festival of Innovation event being organised by the Department of State Development and Innovation (and sponsored by CQU) on Thursday, October 26.

The third annual Festival of Innovation will be held at DPI Parkhurst, with a Celebration of Innovation Dinner later at the Rockhampton Leagues Club.

CQU is a supporter of the 18th International Symposium on Shiftwork and Working Time to be held at Rydges, Yeppoon, in August 2007.

The symposium will run from August 28 to 31.

Congratulations to St Ursula's College (Yeppoon) student Brittney Lawton who has won one of 3 TSXPO bursaries, available to visitors to the Brisbane education showcase in July.

Last weekend, CQU Mackay recognised the newest STEPS graduates completing their courses with an emotional and jubilant ceremony, as well as celebrating the 20th anniversary of the STEPS program.

STEPS, an acronym for Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies, is designed to prepare students for university study.

Last week, 70 final-year Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) students celebrated the conclusion of their teaching degree at CQU Bundaberg.

During the celebration, students presented their final piece of assessment before enjoying afternoon tea with friends and family.

A celebration of completion and commencement of life as a teacher was held at CQU Mackay recently for the freshest batch of learning managers.

With no further assessment items required, 79 students spent the afternoon socialising, celebrating and reminiscing on their years spent at CQU Mackay and in the Mackay education community, where they have learnt how to be the next generation of teachers.

Central Queensland University last night (Thursday, October 19) held a Going Home Ceremony for 39 international students from 12 different nations in Rockhampton.

$25,000 grants have been awarded to both David Downer for his ‘Rainbow Serpent Sculpture’ project and $30,000 to Alison Lees and the Queensland Music Festival for ‘The Song Train’.
