Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • New diver code to protect corals and other marine organisms

    Researchers from CQUniversity's Centre for Environmental Management have developed a Diver Code of Practice in conjunction with dive and ecotourism operators, to help protect fragile marine organisms.

    Although diving on coral reefs is fun and enables us to visit beautiful and mystical places, we are potentially disturbing and/or damaging wildlife and therefore need to take care and follow the simple Code of Practice.

    From today (June 26) the University will be known as CQUniversity Australia, retaining its strong connection to Central Queensland whilst acknowledging the University's national presence and leading position in the international higher education sector.

    CQUniversity Biomedical Science students Amy Hayhurst and Jodie Giese agree that access to the Commonwealth Accommodation Costs Scholarship (CAS) has helped them reduce stress and focus on their studies.

    The Commonwealth Scholarships for 2008 are now open and applications need to be in by July 14.

  • Survey says CQUniversity building and engineering graduates get the best pay

    Graduates from CQUniversity's undergraduate programs in Building and Engineering are the best paid in the country, according to the latest Australian Graduate Survey which compares new graduates from all Australian universities in various fields of study.

    CQUniversity's median graduate salary was $22,500 more than the national median in the field of Building and $10,000 more than the national median in the field of Other Engineering.

    Visiting Scholar from the University of South Africa (UNISA), George Payne made a lasting impression on CQUniversity staff this week after he made the closing address at the Lifelong Learning Conference and a special presentation on Creating Winners for Life.

    Grateful for the opportunity to network and learn from the staff in Rockhampton, George believed his university had much to learn from CQUniversity particularly in regards to online learning systems and bridging programs.

      On Sunday July 6, CQUniversity Mackay and the University of Tasmania will welcome another 5 new students into the UTAS Master of Contemporary Arts degree, during an orientation to be held at CQUniversity Mackay. 

      The orientation for commencing mid-year students marks the ongoing continuation of a community arts collaboration between CQUniversity and UTAS to offer regional arts practitioners the opportunity to study a studio and practice-based Masters in their discipline without having to relocate to southern or interstate campuses.
