Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Karen raises the money through a series of morning teas and by selling lollies and ice creams to her work colleagues.

    Exactly 20 years after the mass move of nurse education away from hospitals onto university campuses, CQU is leading the way for students to get a weekly dose of clinical experience.

    The two days a week of clinical experience will be embedded in theory and mentored by clinical associate lecturers.

    PELM's Professor Richard Clegg said the project was examining the detection of substance corrosion.

  • Engineering wins ARC Linkage grant

    A team from CQU's James Goldston Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems has won an ARC Linkage grant.

    Dr Nasser Hossein Zadeh, Associate Professor Peter Wolfs, Dr Steven Senini, and Dr Dawit Seyoum have been awarded $96,592 in the latest round of grants to be released through the ARC’s Linkage Projects Scheme.

  • Shaz battles terminal cancer but fights for relay

    Shaz Sierek (pictured with daughter Shelby) has agreed to be the face of Rockhampton’s Relay for Life event on May 14-15 next year, despite not knowing if she will be around to attend the event.

    Relay for Life will be held again at CQU Rockhampton's athletics track.

  • Gladstone Centre for Clean Coal appeals for sponsorship

    The Gladstone Centre for Clean Coal (GC3) is needing sponsorship from Central Queensland coal producers and users to maintain its important information service for industry and community in 2005.

    CQU's Co-Chair for GC3 Dr Colin Greensill said it was important to keep this vital service alive with the help of the Central Queensland community.

  • CQU helps launch Defence impacts findings

    CQU was involved in this week\'s launch of the findings of a two-year study of the Socio-economic Impacts of Defence Force Activities in the Central Queensland Region.

    The study was carried out by Associate Professor Gayle Jennings, Centre for Social Science Research, CQU, Professor Larry Dwyer, Qantas Professor of Travel and Tourism Economics, UNSW, and Professor Daniela Stehlik, Director, Alcoa Research Centre for Stronger Communities, CUoT, in conjunction with the Commonwealth Department of Defence.

    People using the Internet as a guide to getting active were just as successful as those using face-to-face briefings.

    That is according to CQU PhD student Rebekah Steele, who compared the approaches via the Health-eSteps program.
