- Walsh hopes Parliament talks fruitful

CQU fruit quality researcher Associate Professor Kerry Walsh hopes his face-to-face meeting with Queensland Child Safety Minister Hon Mike Reynolds this week will be fruitful.
Dr Walsh represented CQU at the Science in Parliament event (Wednesday, October 6) in Brisbane, and was 'matched' with Minister Reynolds.

CQU PhD student Flavio Coelho has received a special commendation in the Professional Managers category, during the Australian Institute of Management (Gladstone region) Management and Business Excellence Awards.
The judges noted Mr Coelho's persistance and ability to apply his research in practical ways.

The Awards recognise, honor and encourage the achievements of students in Asia Pacific who see novel ways in doing things that enhance quality of life in a significant or meaningful way.

CQU Melbourne International Campus recently acknowledged and celebrated the traditional Chinese Moon Festival (September 28).
The festival dates back to the Tang Dynasty 618 AD and celebrates the biggest and brightest full moon of the year, the Harvest Moon.

CQU's Head of School for Nursing & Health Studies, Dr Lorna Moxham has been appointed to the Executive of the Council of Deans of Nursing & Midwifery: Australia & New Zealand.
It is the first time a CQU Head of School has been on the executive.

Senior lecturer with CQU Mackay, Carol Steiner, has delivered a presentation to the UniServe Symposium (in Sydney) on ‘Scholarly Inquiry in Science Teaching and Learning'.
“My presentation isn’t only relevant to science educators – there’s something here for anyone who indoctrinates students into professional paradigms,” said Dr Steiner.

Pioneering staff member Kevin Fagg will become an Emeritus Professor and broadcaster Ross Quinn will receive an Honorary Master of Communication degree during CQU graduations in Rockhampton on Saturday (October 2).
Kevin Fagg retired this year from the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Resources) after continuous service to CQU since he started as an assistant lecturer in 1967.

At a time when an RSPCA TV campaign is linking harm of animals to domestic violence in a generic way, researchers are seeking to understand specifics about the relationship between empathy to animals and empathy to humans.
The CQU researchers are checking the needs of women who fear leaving violent relationships in case their pets are harmed.
