Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Brisbane library serves up 'bites' of data

    CQU Brisbane International Campus library staff donned chef’s hats and aprons this week to produce a chocolate feast for students and staff, who were invited to share in celebrating Library and Information Week and National Library Technician’s Day.

    Against a backdrop of LIW posters and balloons, students and staff tucked in to a variety of baked chocolate goodies, including chocolate chilli bites.

  • Awards recognise Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research

    CQU Mackay’s Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research (CDFVR) is celebrating its association with two awards presented by the State’s Minister for Women, the Honourable Desley Boyle, during a function at Parliament House on Tuesday (May 24).

    The Minister presented Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Awards in five categories to recognise and reward the work of individuals and organisations striving to end domestic and family violence.

  • Harrower appointed to head Plant Pathology journal

    Central Queensland University academic Dr Keith Harrower has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Australasian Plant Pathology (APP), the journal of the Australasian Plant Pathology Society.

    APP has developed as an international journal with high standards, disseminating plant pathology knowledge relating particularly to Australasia and, increasingly, to the Southern Hemisphere.

    Dr Nik Taylor (pictured), from Psychology and Sociology, attended the launch of the program which will care for the pets of women in domestic violence refuges.

  • French language classes resume

  • Masters project will use near infrared spectroscopy at PELM

    Staff at CQU Gladstone were pleased to see former Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) scholar, Luke McArthur (pictured), return to Gladstone recently to begin his Masters of Applied Science. Luke will be based at CQU’s Process Engineering and Light Metals centre and will be working on a project that aims to assess the precision and accuracy of mineralogical analysis of Weipa bauxite using near infrared spectroscopy.

  • Leadership award winners announced at Melbourne graduation

    Three postgraduate students have been honoured with Campus Director’s Leadership Awards, announced at the CQU Melbourne Graduation Ceremony on May 17.

    Parampreet Singh, Fan Zhou (Felix) and Kan Choi Ha (Daisy) were selected based on their outstanding academic results, dedicated attitude and leadership qualities.
