Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Campuses host leading singer-songwriters

    CQU campuses at Gladstone, Bundaberg and Rockhampton last week hosted some of Australia's leading singer-songwriters as they travelled around Queensland on the Queensland Music Festival 'Song Trails' program.

    Deborah Conway (former Do Re Mi lead, solo singer plus stage and screen star), Kev Carmody (Aboriginal recording artist), Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus) and Seaman Dan (ARIA awardee from Torres Strait) helped other aspiring musicians and songwriters to workshop the idea of 'What makes a great song?'.

  • Tourism leaders on campus to inspire central west schoolkids

    Tourism industry leaders visited CQU Rockhampton recently (Friday, July 27) to help inspire 107 school children from the Fitzroy Central West Region who were touring the campus.

    Tourism lecturer Jillian Litster arranged the visit by Tourism Queensland board member Grant Cassidy, Capricorn Caves operator Ann Augusteyn, Rockhampton Tourist and Business Information GM Tony Cullen, Rydges Capricorn Resort marketing manager Krista White and Capricorn Tourism projects officer Brad Johnston.

    CQU and the Construction Skills Training Centre (CSTC), in a mutually beneficial community partnership, have delivered real workplace learning experiences for dozens of local young men and women.

    The students from a range of high schools have been developing their trade skills in construction and site management this week at CQU Rockhampton.

  • Oscar-winning FX company rep visits CQU Mackay

    Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay in conjunction with the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), will welcome Dana Peters, Head of the Creatures Department from Oscar-winning visual effects and animation studio, Weta Digital.

    The visit will be on Friday August 31, when Dana will deliver a free public presentation at the Conservatorium Theatre.

    About 50 people attended a forum entitled 'Towards Understanding Young Muslims in our Community', at CQU Rockhampton on Friday, July 20.

    Information was presented to help communities understand what Australian Muslim youths have experienced in their daily life, what they think and wish for.

    The visitor addressed senior secondary science teachers and senior science students from 11am-12.

  • Professor shares highs and lows of infection prevention

    Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Jennelle Kyd will present a public presentation on preventing middle ear and lung infections next Wednesday, August 8, from 1 to 2pm.
