Central Queensland University (CQU) Library Society will show Italian film ‘Facing Window’ on May 5 from 7.30pm at CQU Mackay campus as part of the monthly film night for members.

Early bird registration to the 4th International Lifelong Learning Conference is now open.

The Conference and workshops will be held June 13 to 16 at Rydges Capricorn Resort, Yeppoon, Queensland.

Staff at the Gladstone campus are hoping groundsman, Dennis Simon will become the biggest loser in 3 weeks time.

Dennis, who has worked as the building and grounds supervisor at the Gladstone campus for nearly 10 years, entered a local radio competition last month based on the television show, The Biggest Loser.

CQU’s Bachelor of Performing Arts students were inspired by vision-impaired guitarist Lorin Nicholson at his once-only performance earlier this month in Rockhampton.

The concert was the result of a performance workshop with third-year Bachelor of Performing Arts students, organised by CQU Community Program Coordinator Glenys Kirkwood.

Twelve women wanting to improve their career prospects by returning to study attended an information session on Thursday, April 6 at CQU Rockhampton.

Participants travelled from Bauhinia Downs, Mt Morgan, Gladstone, Yeppoon and Coorooman.

CQU Press publisher Professor David Myers spent most of the Easter weekend driving to a book launch at Victoria Downs, a merino sheep stud between Morven and Augathella.

CQU Bachelor of Performing Arts graduate Melissa Benn, originally from Grafton and now living in Melbourne, is pausing for breath after working behind the scenes of two exciting projects.

"I returned home from Melbourne after the Commonwealth Games and then my stint with The Rhonda Burchmore show 'Fever' at the Crown Casino in the Palms," Melissa says.

Students and staff kicked off term one on a positive note by celebrating Harmony Day as part of the Living in Harmony initiative administered by Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA).

This initiative, which takes place on March 21 each year, aims at addressing issues of racism by celebrating our cultural diversity and universal values.

A small group of CQU Community Program participants learnt about CQU’s aquatic research and work with water conservation during a tour of the Rockhampton campus last Tuesday, April 18.

CQU’s Paul Graham treated the group to information about the aquatic research being done in animal sciences, while Professor David Midmore along with PhD students Lance Pendergast and Phul Subedi at Plant Sciences, provided some interesting information about the work being done to benefit Central Queensland and beyond through water conservation and re-use, plant management and non-invasive fruit sweetness assessment.

The School of Health & Human Performance will next week kick off a series of monthly presentations designed to expose the latest information on sports performance.

The 2006 Sports Science Series will be of interest to teachers, coaches, parents, athletes, trainers and sportspeople.
