Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Queensland University’s men’s volleyball team was alert and focused Monday, even after a late night at the spectacular opening ceremony of the 2002 Northern University at the Gold Coast.

    It beat Bond University by three sets to one after losing the first set before they found some rhythm and co-ordination.

    A Central Queensland University lecturer will question the future of science in Queensland at an upcoming education conference to be held in Longreach, Queensland on 23 and 24 September.

    Dr Allan Harrison, senior lecturer in science education at CQU, will present the workshop “The Future of Science in the Smart State: Facing the Challenges?” at the Queensland Independent Education Union Conference.

  • SIFE group vying for national title

    A Central Queensland University group of budding entrepreneurs will present their money-making ideas and community work at a national competition in Sydney next week.

    The newly formed CQU SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team will compete against 15 other universities, including last year’s winner University of Melbourne, at Australia’s biggest ever SIFE competition on 13 July.

    434 graduates celebrated their achievements Saturday during packed ceremonies at Central Queensland Community Sports Complex in Rockhampton.

    Graduates’ Representatives, Susan White (pictured left; Bachelor of Environmental Science with Distinction) and Sandra Purnell (pictured right; Bachelor of Education (primary) with Distinction) told classmates that learning was a lifetime commitment and encouraged them to invest in their own communities.

    Central Queensland University has produced unique recordings of indigenous music for a CD released this week, which coincides with National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week 2002.

    CQU’s Dr Karl Neuenfeldt, a lecturer at the university’s Bundaberg Campus, believes the new CD, Listen Up: Music of Black Australia(Skinnyfish Music, Darwin) is an important record of indigenous culture.
