Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Emerald 'dividing' to conquer space

    CQU Emerald Campus relocated to the Australian Agricultural Colleges Corporation, Emerald Campus (formerly known as the Emerald Ag College) in June 2004.

    CQU Facilities Management has demonstrated its commitment to the campus with the recent completion of a dividing wall in the Emerald Academic Building known as Robertson House.

    Central Queensland University's coral observers are tipping a possible mass bleaching of the Keppel region for the first time since 2002.

    The Keppel region has some of the best fringing inshore coral reef in the central Great Barrier Reef, with over 80% hard coral cover.

    The Introduction of a national ID card would give the Federal Government a useful plug for a 'sticky loop-hole'.

    That is according to Central Queensland University specialist on public policy and ethics, Dr Robert Kelso, who said it was debatable if the additional benefits would outweigh the added costs.

    Facilities Management has consulted CQU academic Dr Keith Harrower to monitor air quality in CQU buildings.

    The School of Biological & Environmental Sciences microbiology specialist has worked with the Division throughout 2005, conducting ongoing tests to assess air quality in selected CQU buildings.

    CQU staff and tenants of the former Commonwealth Building (number 351) on the corner of East and Fitzroy streets are warming to the benefits of a new roof-top chiller, after sweltering conditions and break-downs of the old unit.

    The University recently installed the new chiller as part of a total air-conditioning system upgrade for the building.
