Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The awards were presented at the 51st Annual Conference of the German Society of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology in Germany.

    Associate Professor Graham Pegg, Head of CQU’s Chemical & Biomedical Science School, recently was invited to join the Australian and Queensland Government sponsored Austrade delegation to the Bio Japan Exhibition, held in Osaka from September 13-15.

    Dr Pegg’s diverse research background over many years in new molecule discovery, drug design and development, biochemistry, pharmacology and biotechnology commercialisation enabled him to discuss a wide variety of new research products and ideas directly with Japanese scientists.

    Matthew Ward, a graduate of CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, is co-starring as 'Tony' among a 41-strong cast for the Gold Coast Arts Centre production of 'A West Side Story' (September 21-28).

    Matthew has had plenty of experience on stage since completing a Diploma of Music Theatre with CQCM in 1998.

    Central Queensland University has been awarded 5 stars and placed among the highest-rated universities in Australia for Positive Graduate Outcomes, according to the recently-released Good Universities Guide (Undergraduate and Postgraduate editions) 2007.

    It is the third consecutive year that CQU has taken out the highest rating, clearly demonstrating that CQU graduates are achieving outcomes that are among the best in Australia.

  • Study starts as part of Moranbah's growth management group planning

    A study focusing on the social and economic challenges facing Moranbah is set to commence as part of the final stages of planning work by the Moranbah Growth Management Group (MG2).

    The study, being undertaken by Central Queensland University and led by Associate Professors John Rolfe and Stewart Lockie, will also consider key relationships between Moranbah and Mackay, particularly on issues such as business and employment interactions.
