Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The 2003 Rockhampton Careers Expo will be held at the Central Queensland University Sports Complex on Tuesday July 29 from 4pm to 8pm.

    Most Queensland universities will be represented along with people from the local TAFE College, defence forces, police service and a range of private education providers and work placement agencies.

  • Biomedical student bursts into nuclear science

    Central Queensland University final year biomedical science student April Morton has just returned from an explosive winter school at the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) near Sydney.

    April got “up-close and personal’ with neutron scattering instruments on the nuclear research reactor HIFAR (High Flux Australian Reactor), as well as ion beam accelerators, gamma irradiation and geochronology facilities.

    These links will be specifically with the Language Centre and Faculty of Education and Creative Arts but could involve broader cooperation such as research links in the area of sustainable agriculture.

  • Library progresses nationwide user survey and research network portal

    CQU's Division of Library Services is seeking feedback from students and staff throughout Australia and is involved in development of a national portal to integrate library resource sharing services.

    The library survey is across all CQU campuses in Australia and is being conducted to determine staff and student opinions of the library service.

  • Seaman shares songs of the sea

    Thursday Island’s legend Seaman Dan will combine the traditions of Australia, America, African and Polynesia into a truly unique musical performance at this year’s Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day this Sunday August 17.

    The 73-year-old Torres Strait Islander will perform a one-hour spectacular of blues, hula, slow jazz and folk songs to the thousands of people expected to turnout for the Central Queensland’s family event of the year.
