Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU a leader in 3-D imaging of industrial materials samples

    CQU is among only a few institutions in Australia with advanced capability for 3-D imaging of industrial materials samples, thanks to an upgrade of the Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) Centre in Gladstone.

    PELM spokesperson Professor Richard Clegg said the Centre did a lot of investigative work for industries in the region using the Scanning Electron Microscope.

    This year is the Year of Women in Engineering (as nominated by Engineers Australia) and CQU Gladstone student Lisa Morrow is happy to be part of an increasing number of women becoming engineering professionals.

    Lisa only turned 17 in May this year, so she was a year and a half younger than most of her new peers at CQU Gladstone when she commenced her studies in February.

    CQU Rockhampton performing arts student Jenna Saini is grabbing opportunity with both hands, thanks to an exchange program with University at Buffalo (UB) The State University of New York.

    The second-year student, originally from Lismore (NSW) where she attended Trinity Catholic College, arranged the exchange with the help of Lavenia James and Dr Emma Killion from CQU.

  • Students make a splash on campus

    Dressing up as a bear, a clown, a princess or a zookeeper is not how most people spend a Sunday, but a group of final-year Bachelor of Learning Management students at CQU Gladstone did just that when they organised a family day for the community recently.

    The students organised the 'Make a Splash' expo as part of their assessment for the BLM's Advocacy, Leadership and Change course.
