Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    All interested people are welcome at a free talk about the benefits of vibration training for health, strength and sports performance, as well as future trends in its use.

    The presentation by Dr Brendan Humphries will be hosted by CQUniversity's Health Communities program from 1pm-2pm on Friday October 10 at Rockhampton Campus with video links to campus venues at Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Noosa.

    The outstanding work of CQUniversity Mackay 2008 mentors has been recognised during an annual presentation evening held recently at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

    The 2008 Mackay Mentor of the Year Award was Wendy Dempster and the Mackay Outstanding Mentor Award was presented to Robert Smith.

    A CQUniversity Professor of Physical Activity and Population Health says Australia should be looking at prevention approaches rather than treatment when it comes to obesity.

    Professor Kerry Mummery acknowledges the burden that obesity is currently placing on individuals and on the health care system, but calls for more support in prevention, rather than treatment programs.

  • Music and theatre auditions planned

    CQUniversity is holding auditions for its Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) and Bachelor of Theatre (Specialisation) degrees in Mackay and Rockhampton.

    The Bachelor of Theatre program will debut in Mackay in 2009 in the campus' iconic theatre facilities.
