Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Professor speaks out at organics conference

    CQU’s Professor David Midmore, based in Rockhampton, was invited to make a presentation to the Third OFA Conference, and the Darling Harbour Convention Centre, on the subject of sustainability in intensive organic production systems.

    The conference was timed to coincide with the Organic Expo 2006, Australia's premier certified organic and environmental products and services (eco-ganics) expo.

    Staff at CQU Mackay campus last week learnt more about why they should look after their hearts at the first of a series of Health and Wellbeing sessions supported by CQU Mackay campus.

    While 26 staff members of CQU Mackay munched on a healthy, hearty lunch, Heart Foundation representative and physiotherapist Mandy Lawless highlighted some of the alarming statistics on heart disease and the Australian population and ways to combat heart disease.

    A total of 37 graduates attended - most from the innovative learning management program which has been praised at national level.

    Country music recording artist Kimber Sparks credits CQU with helping to ease her back into the world of study, and her marketing lessons have given her confidence to tackle the music industry head on.

    Kimber's aptly titled debut single 'Go Get 'em Girl' has already reached number one on country music countdowns around the world and her new video is playing nationally on the Country Music Channel.

  • Creative Enterprise student shows he is creative and enterprising

    CQU Bachelor of Creative Enterprise student Anthony Doak is turning from class-smart to street-smart to give real meaning to the core performance and entrepreneurial apects of his degree.

    The Rockhampton-based 3rd-year student will perform with professional entertainers at the Brisbane EKKA (August 10-19) and, later this year, will work behind the scenes for Cairns' Just Us Theatre Ensemble.

  • CQU psycho-social health research promotes innovative psychiatric training

    CQU's International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research initiative has published an article in collaboration with psychiatric experts, describing an innovative approach for psychiatric training in Queensland.

    The collaboration developed and refined a psychiatric training package for schizophrenia through an interactive workshop.

    The conference was well attended by CQU staff, including Gold Coast International Campus Director Associate Professor Ken Bruce, Helen Yang from CQU's Melbourne campus, Commerce lecturer Rakesh Gupta and Head of Commerce Beth Tennent from Rockhampton campus.
