Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Talented student Janine Bennet has taken out the top honour of best film at a showcase of Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay Digital movie making students’ work held last Friday night at CQU Mackay Cook lecture theatre.

    The compilation of films resembled a short film festival and was enjoyed by an audience of family, friends, colleagues and lecturers at CQU Mackay.

    The Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research Centre (The Centre) has been honoured in the first Minister for Communities Award for Excellence in workforce developments at a presentation dinner on Tuesday night in Brisbane.

    The Centre was 1 of 5 finalists in the Culturally Inclusive Practice Category and won the award for the Regional Nomination Area in this category.

  • Workshop aims to strengthen support for migrants

    A community facilitator’s workshop was held on Wednesday, November 15, as part of CQU’s Nurturing Migrants Project.

    The purpose of the workshop was to provide feedback on the project’s progress and continue to develop a community plan to strengthen support for new and old migrants within the community.

    Wading through mud to collect flying fox guano may not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but American university students, Julie Byrd and Christiana Swanson have travelled halfway around the world to do just that.

    Julie and Christiana are in Gladstone completing a 10-week internship at Central Queensland University’s Centre for Environmental Management and have been collecting flying fox guano as part of their research project.

  • French students sample Aussie wildlife

    French students Ophelie Beets and Charlotte Baudry have been sampling wildlife on a 3-month visit hosted by CQU's Centre for Environmental Management.

    The pair, who are at the French equivalent of Master's level, are completing a research internship for their programs at ENSAR, l'Ecole Nationale Supirieure Agronomique de Rennes (the National Higher Agronomic School at Rennes).
