Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU graduate Neville Tickner has been hosting an American professor he met while on exchange at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) in the late 1990s.

    CQU still has a current exchange agreement with EIU and we receive about three or four full-fee-paying study abroad students from there each year.

  • Rockhampton conference builds stronger communities

    Up to 100 government, business, academic and community representatives from around the state met in Rockhampton today, Thursday, December 2, to work on building a stronger, more independent Central Queensland.

    Delegates to the first Sustainable Regional Development symposium, hosted by Central Queensland University, and in conjunction with researchers from Griffith University and the University of Queensland, looked at ways that all levels of government, industry and community can better cooperate on planning and development issues in the region.

  • Rotary awards CQU employees for 'pride in work'

    Two Central Queensland University employees have been recognised for their hard work and dedication to their jobs through the Rotary Pride of Workmanship Awards.

    The Rotary Club of Rockhampton East presented awards to Kylie White for her work with CQU's Academic Board and its executive and to Diane Hogan for her work with the University's Faculty of Arts, Health and Sciences.

  • Purchasing Certification program praised

    Queensland Department of Public Works purchasing officer Michael Hart (pictured) has praised the purchasing certification program delivered by CQU's Direct Edge unit in partnership with Queensland Purchasing.

    Michael has achieved his level four purchasing certification which included study in eight purchasing courses over four years.

  • Conservatorium graduate collars Lipstick role

    Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music graduate Caroline Taylor is the vocal coordinator and co-star of the musical ‘Lipstick’, currently playing at the Gold Coast Arts Centre.

    The regular gig means a busy life, since Caroline is also voice tutor at two private schools and runs the Gold Coast Voice Studio from her home.

    Central Queensland University's Biomedical Science degree is developing a reputation as a pathway into medical and health careers.

    Three of the 2004 graduating class have been accepted into the University of Queensland's Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery program, after performing well in their Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test.

  • Staff invited to tug for good cause

    CQU staff have been invited to enter teams in the Anglicare CQ Tug of War competition at Bunnings Car Park in Rockhampton.

    The competition will be held from 10am on Saturday, December 11.

  • CQU-based entry places in national doco competition

    CQU staff members Kate Ames, Peter Lawrence and Philip Robertson have placed equal second in a national competition to make a short documentary about Canberra.

    They will receive a cash prize for 'Walter's Roundabouts', which speculates about the link between the design of Canberra and Theodore in Central Queensland.

  • Self-review starts on December 6
