Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Head of School Dr Lorna Moxham said the 'warts and all' review of nursing programs was invaluable and would lead to better outcomes and study experiences for students.

  • Dr Taylor calls for Information Society Academy

    CQU's Dr Wal Taylor has called for the establishment of an Information Society Academy, during his keynote address to the Connecting Up conference in Adelaide this week.

    Dr Taylor, who helped establish Rockhampton's COIN Internet Academy, said the Academy should be established to develop policy, undertake research and coordinate efforts in relation to the the societal use of Information technology.

    A diverse team has won the James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

  • Quality management information system project underway

    The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Resources) requested the investigation of a management information system applicable to the management of data, information and reporting appropriate for all quality management systems currently being managed or implemented across the University.

    A project was subsequently initiated to develop a system that will support the management of the University’s quality processes.

  • 10 000 Steps charity bowls a success

    More than 70 would-be lawn bowlers attended the Relay for Life Bowls Night at the Athelstane Bowls Club recently.

    This social event was organised by the staff at 10,000 Steps project and students of the CQU School of Health & Human Performance to assist in fundraising for the Queensland Cancer Fund Relay for Life.

    Professor Larry Dwyer, the QANTAS Professor of Travel and Tourism Economics, University of New South Wales, was the recent guest lecturer to first-year students enrolled in an Understanding Tourism subject at CQU Rockhampton.

    Professor Dwyer’s lecture focussed on the economic dimensions of tourism.
