Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    For John Price and his cattle dog cross Tike, the evacuation centre based at CQUniversity in Rockhampton has been a real blessing.

    As the waters began to surround his home in the now flood inundated suburb of Depot Hill, John made the call to leave his home with his dog and set up residence in the University's Sports Complex a few days ago.

    CQUniversity's  Term 3 Final examinations at 51 locations throughout Queensland  in February  are currently scheduled to proceed despite the floods, a CQUniversity official announced this week.

    2751 students are preparing to sit the exams across the state starting 7 February.

    A 43-year-old Yeppoon grandmother has thrown caution to the wind and has taken the first ‘steps' toward a career as an accountant, thanks to a supportive push from her family.

    Joanne Shepherd enrolled in CQUniversity's STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Entrance Preparatory Studies) program early this year and since has graduated and enrolled in an accounting degree for 2011.
