Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The CQU graduation ceremony at Melbourne last week (September 9 at the Grand Hyatt in Collins Street) included a guest speech by Lord Mayor John So.

    Preparing for the fifth intake of students in 2005, Noosa Hub sub-Dean David Lynch has announced that CQU’s Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) degree will be extended to include secondary studies.

  • CQU helps pupils eye bugs across 15 time zones

    Brisbane primary school pupils were in full control of an electron microscope peering at lady beetles and bed bugs this week (Tues, Sept 14).

    But they had to arrive at school a little earlier than normal (8am) to fit in with ‘Bugscope’ staff at the University of Illinois, Urban-Champaign, who set up the experiment on Monday evening (USA time).

  • CQU Mackay student wins 'Women in Technology' scholarship

    CQU Bachelor of Information Technology student Crystal Gill has won the 2004 WIT Scholarship for Indigenous Women in Technology.

    Crystal is in her first year of study at Central Queensland University and is “thrilled to receive the scholarship”, which includes 12 months' paid work experience with Brisbane City Council.

    HR lecturer Karen Windeknecht (pictured) is pleased to announce that graduates of our Bachelor of Business (Human Resources Management) program will now have automatic membership of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) when they apply.

  • Senior high students eligible for Co-op Engineering Scholarships

    Year 11 and 12 students and their parents are welcome to attend a Co-op Engineering information day at CQU campuses in Gladstone, Bundaberg, Mackay and Rockhampton, from 9am to 1pm on Sunday, September 12.

    Participating students will be eligible for one of 12 $1000 scholarships being offered to promote Co-op Engineering.
