Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity jazz studies graduate Nathaniel Andrew was born and raised in Mackay but now earns his living in America as a freelance electric bass player who can be heard on up to 40 different CD album recordings.

    Now performing regularly around the Cincinnati region, Nathaniel is working with singer/songwriter/pianist Dan Orlando, who has a record label deal and will release an album later this year.

    Queensland Fire and Rescue and CQUniversity have planned for a cool weather burn on Rockhampton Campus this Sunday (July 24), to remove hazard vegetation before the fire season.

    Exercises, such as these, are designed to reduce fuel load, and are especially relevant to us given the fires in the Rockhampton area in recent years.

    Participants drawn from across the SEQ, CQ and NQ regions have been hearing a keynote address by Graduate Careers Australia Executive Director Dr Noel Edge.

    A CQUniversity 'Students in Free Enterprise' group has won one of four Spirit of SIFE awards from the SIFE National Championships, held recently in Sydney.

    CQUniversity Mackay SIFE presented projects they had worked on during the year, including the highly successful Mighty Foods Save the Circus and CHOICES.
