Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Ashwath launches native plant book

    CQU Plant Sciences researcher Dr Nanjappa Ashwath has launched a new book called 'Native Plants for the Fitzroy Catchment', produced by the Rockhampton branch of the Society for Growing Australian Plants.

    The launch was held at Kershaw Gardens in the presence of the national president of SGAP Laurie Smith.

  • CQU extends links in Hong Kong

    Australia's reigning education exporter of the year, Central Queensland University has extended its links in Asia via a Memorandum of Understanding to explore research synergies and staff and student exchange with City University of Hong Kong.

    The new link complements CQU's existing degree programs offered with Hong Kong College of Technology and those under development with Hartford Institute, a specialised private provider of higher education in Hong Kong.

  • CQU farewells international students

    CQU Rockhampton has hosted a ceremony to farewell international students who are due to complete their programs and return to their home countries.

    Seventeen full-degree students (five postgraduate and 12 undergraduate) and 21 Study Abroad/Exchange students attended the 'Going Home' ceremony.

    The James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems has hosted a visit by the Science Minister Peter McGauran and Member for Keppel Vince Lester.

    They held discussions with Faculty Dean Professor Elizabeth Taylor, Associate Professor Peter Wolfs, Dr Colin Cole and Dr Manicka Dhanasekar and later toured the engineering laboratories.

    Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) student David Falknau and two other education students have created a database designed to decrease teachers’ administrative demands.

    The first cohort of Central Queensland University Mackay Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) students will complete their final day of study on October 9.

    To celebrate the achievement, 62 students will complete a final roll call at 1pm on October 7 and meet industry partners who assisted with developing the program over the past three years, at 4pm.
