Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Graduations often bring family members together and the CQU Rockhampton graduation on Saturday (March 11) was no exception.

    Amy Gillespie, who has just completed her Bachelor of Learning Management (Professional Japanese), graduated on the same day as two of her cousins (Kristy Glover and Rebecca Davey), her uncle (Craig Davey) and her partner (Heath McKenzie).

    The CQU Rockhampton Language Centre has welcomed 40 Japanese students to learn not only English, but also about our Aussie culture.

    The postgraduate economic students from Meikai University, Chiba (east of Tokyo), and Asahi University, Gifu (near Nagoya), have travelled here on a study tour with their professor, Dr Reiji Miyazaki.

  • Maleny school setting to prepare classy teachers

    Students in CQU’s teacher preparation program, the Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM), will complete the first year of their study in Maleny in an innovative partnership between the University and the profession.

    University students wishing to become teaching professionals, or Learning Managers as the BLM calls them, will attend lectures at Maleny State High School, accessing the school’s teaching facilities and the expertise of those currently working in the profession.

    The Harmsworth brothers (Jeremy and Aaron) both attended the CQU Rockhampton graduation ceremony on Saturday.

    Jeremy, 27, (pictured left) graduated with a Bachelor of Learning Management (VET) and flew home especially from Darwin, where he teaches manual arts, to attend the ceremony.

    Women from Biloela and surrounding district attended the presentation together with HR managers from local mining companies.

  • CQU showcases graduate employers

    More than 30 employers will present at Central Queensland University’s Showcase of Graduate Employers, over five days from March 20-24.

    The Showcase of Graduate Employers will be held in the Senior Common Room at Capricornia College from 10am to 3pm with employers presenting to students for 30 minutes each.

    CQURoam is CQU's wireless network that allows users to access CQU network services with a laptop or mobile device without requiring physical network connections.

    There was a hive of activity at CQU Emerald on Wednesday (March 1) as the incoming students were welcomed by campus staff and seven mentors.

    Emerald Campus is building a reputation as a nursery for producing talent, with a high percentage of students being awarded a Golden Key Award for outstanding results, and two students being selected to teach in Korea.

    Recently CQUality hosted a visitor from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, Ms Cathy Shaw. Ms Shaw is the Acting Head of the Quality & Academic Standards Division.
