Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity first-year Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) students each received an industry scholarship from the national Chiropractors' Association of Australia to support their attendance at the annual conference of the International College of Applied Kinesiology, held recently over three days in Cairns.

    The conference attracted more than 150 delegates from Australia, as well as 14 other countries, and included orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists and dentists as well as chiropractors.

    The Rockhampton-based student gained two prizes from Engineers Australia and others included the Fund for Accessing Future Potential (FAPEx), the Homer Cheng Ergon Energy Memorial Prize, and the Bechtel Australia Prize for First-Year Engineering.

    CQUniversity students have embraced the concept of giving up their place in a prize draw in order to support charity.

    Students providing feedback for course evaluations had the option of being in a prize draw or to give up their place so funds could instead flow to Salaam Baalak (a charity helping disadvantaged kids in Delhi) or CQUni Cares (financial assistance for students in need).

    CQUniversity academics from the Bachelor of Oral Health program were among the first to see a new 18-wheel vehicle which has been purpose-built to deliver the Royal Flying Doctor Service's new mobile dental service.

    The state-of-the-art QCoal Community Dental Service is now travelling through Central Queensland providing much-needed preventative dental care and treatment to regional communities with no out-of-pocket expenses.
