Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity Australia (formerly known as Central Queensland University; we adopted the new brand in the middle of 2008):

    • 19 000 students bodies in total (2008)
    • Equivalent to about 12 000 full time students overall (international students account for about 47% of full-time load );
    • About 950-1000 full-time equivalent staff (headcount varies throughout the year but we have around 3000 on the payroll annually when you account for testing, marking etc)
    • 6 non-metro campuses and learning sites: Bundy, Emerald, Rocky, Gladstone, plus Mackay including the Conservatorium and Noosa (which is a learning site, not a campus). We teach Education (B and related) programs at Noosa and support Nursing and Social Work students there enrolled by Distance Education
    • 4 metro campuses: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast - all exclusively catering to international students
    • We teach in Singapore too with Melior Business School (MBS) to deliver the Bachelor of Hospitality Management, the Bachelor of Science (Psychology), the Bachelor of Bio-Medical Science and soon the Master of Business Administration and/or the Master of Management (International Business).
