Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Rail research was under the microscope at a Centre for Railway Engineering industry day held in Rockhampton on Friday, September 30.

    The event attracted 27 rail industry representatives from Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville.

  • AUQA Audit of CQU is underway

    The Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) audit of CQU commenced at the Fiji International Campus on September 19.

    This was followed by members of the audit panel visiting the Sydney, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore sites, and most recently (on Tuesday this week) the Melbourne International Campus.

    A national study has reported that new-style ‘learning managers’ graduating from Central Queensland University are well prepared to meet the demands of first-year teaching when compared to graduates of more traditional education degrees.

    The Federal Government has just approved the release of an evaluation of the Bachelor of Learning Management at CQU, prepared for the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

  • Fijian students climb high for hoops

    The rain poured and the slopes were slippery, but nothing could deter the CQU Fiji International Campus women’s basketball team from climbing jungle-draped Mt Korobaba to raise funds for their participation in the recent Tertiary Games held in Suva.

    Armed with sturdy boots and the odd cane knife to cut through lush growth, the team and their busload of supporters made the ascent with the purchase of new uniforms for the competition their main objective.
