Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Mackay Campus welcoming students despite flood damage

    CQU Mackay has been welcoming students for pre-Orientation study skills sessions and has been hosting exams and mentor training this week despite flood damage which disrupted power and communications.

    Head of Campus Dr Trevor Davison says that ITD technicians are having some success in restoring phone and Email links damaged by the recent flooding.

  • Academic booked for 'sound' project

    CQU's Dr Karl Neuenfeldt has been awarded a Research Fellowship at the National Film and Sound Archive to produce a book on Torres Strait Islander Culture in Australian Music and Film.

    The Bundaberg-based Associate Professor in Contemporary Communication will take up the Fellowship between October and December this year and will visit Canberra for the project.

    There's been a whole lot of moving going on! In recent months, many staff have shifted office or moved onto campus to support the organisational review and to free up space in the city for commercial tenants.

    The space management and maintenance teams at Division of Facilities Management have been assisting staff to complete the transfers as smoothly as possible.

  • Feast of fun for Aussie Day in Brisbane

    Business and IT students and staff at CQU Brisbane International Campus celebrated Australia Day in a real Aussie style.

    Both students and staff enjoyed the feast of traditional ‘Aussie Tucker': meat pies, damper, Vegemite sandwiches, lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits.

  • Isaac Regional Council residents encouraged to have their say

    Residents of the new Isaac Regional Council area will be asked to share their opinions on issues affecting their community into the future when Central Queensland University conducts a telephone survey of approximately 400 randomly selected households in the area this month.

    The local authorities of Belyando Shire Council, Nebo Shire Council and Broadsound Shire Council will be amalgamated on March 16 to form the Isaac Regional Council and residents will be given the opportunity to offer feedback on important community issues before this amalgamation occurs.
