Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Staff and students at CQU Sydney International Campus gathered for an opportunity to rub shoulders and engage in a social gathering outside the classrooms with free soft drinks and a barbecue provided for all those who attended.

    This social event is put on regularly during term 1 and term 2 every year to provide an opportunity for new and continuing students to get together and mingle.

    CQU researcher Claire Sellens has resorted to digging into sediment if a stream bed is dry, in her quest to sample water courses in the Fitzroy Basin.

     "I hope it rains soon," she says, as it has been very dry since she arrived in the region in September last year.

  • Rocky scoured for 'next-gen' cycling talent (Cyling Idol hits town)

    In a glass-slipper approach, Rockhampton Cycling Club is keen to give every young person in Rockhampton the chance to be talented-spotted as a potential cycling champion of the future - even those who may never have ridden a bike.

    Since Rockhampton has been a springboard for national, world and Olympic champions in the past, the Club has been awarded funding from the Australian Sports Commission's National Talent Identification and Development Program to search for the next generation of talent.

  • Researchers can get snapshot of Queensland

    The Population Research Laboratory (PRL) within CQU's Centre for Social Science Research is conducting the 3rd annual Queensland Social Survey in July/August of this year.

    The 2007 QSS is an omnibus survey that gathers information from a representative sample of the Queensland population using the Computer-Assisted-Telephone-Interview (CATI) technology resident in the PRL.

  • India visit by Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR)

    The CQU-based International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR) has strengthened its international research ties in a recent visit to Trivandrum, India.

    IPP-SHR Program Manager, Mr Hamish Holewa, used the visit to establish a collaborative research project funded by the Commonwealth Government's Endeavour India Research Fellowship, awarded to IPP-SHR researchers earlier this year.
