Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Rockhampton Marketing and Tourism lecturer Jillian Litster has been encouraging tourism operators around regional Queensland to enter the Queensland Tourism Awards for 2003.

    Ms Litster conducted workshops in how to enter the prestigious competition for Queensland Tourism in Rockhampton earlier this month and Mackay and the Whitsundays this week.

    Two innovative art exhibitions will be opened by Central Queensland University this week to launch Under 8s Week.

    The exhibitions will be staged at CQU’s Early Childhood Building, 240 Quay Street, Rockhampton, and will be officially opened by District Director of Education Queensland Rockhampton region, Lynne Foley on Friday May 23 at 6pm.

    Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Marathon Dance Competition is set to see competitors burn as much energy as elite athletes.

    This endurance race takes place on the dance floor, with competitors grooving to the beat for up to four hours.

    Eight Central Queensland University students are preparing to represent Queensland in Rugby League at the Australian University Championships being held in Brisbane on May 24. Rockhampton players Gerard Parle, Guy Williams, and Todd Brandon will be joined by Bundaberg’s Rowan Graham and Brisbane’s Ben Bourke in the Queensland open side to play NSW in the final of the Championship.

  • Libraries an unlikely hub for fitness

    Rockhampton’s libraries have become a hub for the loan of pedometers.

    The joint initiative between CQU-based 10,000 Steps and Rockhampton City Council, invited citizens to slip on walking shoes, slap on a hat (and sunscreen!) and pop a step counting pedometer on their hips.

  • Specialists sought for Post Office conservation

    Specialist engineers, consultants and surveyors are being sought to plan the conservation of the old Rockhampton Post Office building in East Street.

    The specialists are being sought by the Bauhinia Architects firm, which is working with conservation specialist firm Allom Lovell on a project led by Central Queensland University.
