Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Annual science quiz at CQU Mackay

    This week has been Science Week at CQU Mackay and over 100 students have been involved in various workshops around the campus, culminating in the annual science quiz and pizza night.

    The popular science quiz was the brainchild of CQU lecturer Delma Clifton and has been running since 1999, as part of the Science Week activities at CQU Mackay.

    The Library at CQU Mackay is holding a wine and cheese night on Monday, August 29, from 4pm to celebrate a new acquisition.

    Mackay Orchestras Incorporated (MOI) has transferred its orchestral music collection of scores to the CQU Library where it can be properly housed in an air-conditioned environment and managed appropriately by the library.

    The results from the recently-completed joint study have just been published and are available for interested communities and groups.

    The annual science film festival, SCINEMA, is screening again this year, as part of National Science Week activities.

    The popular film festival has been running annually since 2000, and this year SCINEMA will come to CQU Mackay for a free weekend film festival on August 27-28.

  • CQU research centre hosts Chinese lecturer

    CQU Primary Industries Research Centre recently hosted Yuyue Yang, a lecturer at the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, Xiangtan University in Human, China.

    Mr Yang worked with Dr Ninghu Su and Dr Nanjappa Ashwath over the past three months on parameterising a multiphase flow simulator named STOMP.

  • Governor launches CQU Press book on women's suffrage

    Queensland Cabinet Ministers and female MPs attended last week's Australian launch of CQU Press' latest publication, 'From Suffragists to Legislators: Queensland Women in State and Federal Parliaments', written by John McCulloch.

    Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce AC launched the two-volume set on Thursday, August 25, in the Legislative Council Chamber of Parliament House in Brisbane.

    Gladstone high school students recently competed against schools from around Central Queensland to earn the honour of winning this year’s CQ Regional Titration Competition. Team 1 from Chanel College was announced as the winners of the competition with Toolooa State High School (team 1) and Gladstone State High School (team 1) finishing third and fourth, respectively.

    Fudge cooker Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning Elizabeth Tansley said the most popular flavours among infocom staff were strawberry fudge, peppermint, funtime and pecan.
