Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Ms Abou-Lehaf has come on board during a transition phase, involving the establishment of a new postgraduate campus building (also in Kent Street).

  • Mother and son 'nurse' their careers along

    Nurses who have been out of the wards for many years are now updating their skills and returning to work thanks to Central Queensland University's Competence Assessment Service (CAS) program, headquartered in Rockhampton.

    Among those taking up the challenge are Brisbane-based mother and son pair, Trish and Dan Carter (pictured).

    The trio presented their readings on Thursday, March 10, at Australia House in The Strand.

  • Aussie Tourism students interact with American counterparts

    Over the next month, students of CQU’s Tourism program will be engaging in an online interactive exchange with their counterparts at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the US.

    The online project has been developed by Associate Professor Les Killion of CQU’s School of Marketing and Tourism, and Professor Nancy McGehee of Virginia Tech’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

    A new partnership between CQU and the Friendly Society Private Hospital is enabling university students to gain access to clinical knowledge and skills in a hospital environment during their three years of tertiary studies.

    The new curriculum for the undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing Program now includes a greater emphasis on clinical practice.

  • Rocky helps acclaimed play hit the road

    Rockhampton performing arts students are helping to prepare a schools-tour adaptation of the acclaimed Australian play ‘Kingswood Kids’, which examines the impact of poverty on children and families.

    The CQU Bachelor of Performing Arts students are adapting the work with Brisbane-based scriptwriter Angela Betzien and director Leticia Caceres, who have developed and presented professional seasons of the play (including for La Boite Theatre).

    Information sessions commenced this week to share the findings of last year's Self Review, to provide details about the Trial Audit which is currently in progress and to provide an update on the October AUQA Audit.

    The Self Review was conducted in December 2004.

  • Training day focus on scanning electron microscope

    A training day was held this week for CQU staff and postgraduate students with an interest in learning how to use the recently installed scanning electron microscope (SEM) located at the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre in Gladstone.

    Facilitator of the training day, Professor Richard Clegg said the aim was to give a general background in the SEM and to give some "hands-on" experience to those who were interested.
