Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Over 20 nations represented at Brisbane/Gold Coast graduation

    Graduates from over 20 countries attended the CQU Brisbane and Gold Coast international campuses graduation ceremony on September 7, at the Carlton Crest Hotel, Brisbane.

    The guest speaker was Mr Cyril Connell, a sportsman who represented Australia, Queensland and Country Queensland in rugby league.

    Dr Errol Vieth of the Faculty of Informatics & Communication (pictured below left) recently attended the first meeting of the management group of CMS’ Centre for Intercultural Pedagogy and Learning (CIPL) for 2005, held in Melbourne.

    The Centre was established to encourage research into intercultural teaching and learning, exploiting the Australian International Campuses’ unique concentration of international students.

    Two undergraduate students have been honoured with Campus Director’s Leadership Awards at CQU Melbourne’s September graduation ceremony.

    Pradosh Kumar Sinha (pictured right) has received outstanding results including 12 distinctions and two high distinctions as part of his Bachelor of Information Technology.

  • Vietnamese visitors get taste of Brisbane

    Nguyen (Yen) Minh Dieu and Lam anh Vu recently visited CQU Brisbane International Campus as winners of the 'Australia – 1 Country, every opportunity’ English Speaking Contest in their home country of Vietnam.

    During their 4-week visit to Australia they were hosted by two Australian families and attended the CQU campuses in Rockhampton and Brisbane.

  • CQU student named Queensland Apprentice of the Year

    Part-time CQU student Timothy Hall, of Gracemere, has been named the state’s Apprentice of the Year at the 2005 Queensland Training Awards.

    Mr Hall is a full-time engineering cadet at Moura Mine during the week, a boilermaker in Rockhampton at weekends, and studies 3 to 4 hours a night towards a civil engineering degree at CQU.

  • CQU Sydney academic attends NZ law teachers conference

    CQU Sydney academic Michael Nancarrow recently attended a conference for the Australasian Law Teachers Association in Hamilton, New Zealand.

    Mr Nancarrow wanted to have the chance to present some ideas and experience from delivering legal education to post-graduate international students.

  • Gold Coast students visit Supreme Courts

    Undergraduate students from CQU Gold Coast International campus recently were involved in an excursion to the Supreme Courts in Brisbane.

    The trip was organised by their law lecturer Hugh Zillman, who is a Barrister in NSW, QLD and the High Court.

  • Students visit newspaper production facilities

    A group of undergraduate and postgraduate students from CQU Gold Coast have visited the new press and newspaper production facilities at their local 'Bulletin' newspaper.

    The students were able to see how a newspaper is produced, commencing at the editorial and journalist sections, through to the art and composition stages and onto the production and processing.

  • Teachers of future gather at Glenmore

    Hundreds of trainee teachers, current teachers and administrators from the public and private education sectors recently gathered at Glenmore High (on Friday, September 9).

    The gathering included around 200 trainee teachers (now referred to as ‘learning managers’) from the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts at Central Queensland University.
