Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    MIST is an annual conference for school children which aims to engage and enthuse, and to help them decide if they want a career in science, IT, maths or technology (MIST).  The areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are critical to the well-being of our communities and nation.

  • Surya seeks water use efficiencies for irrigated agriculture

    The Winner of the Opal Award for Engaged Research & Innovation:

    Make that Water Work: Improved Efficiencies of water use in irrigated agriculture   

    Dr Surya Bhattarai- ROCKHAMPTON

    Dr Bhattarai developed a modification of sub-surface drip irrigation, called oxygation, the aeration of irrigation water which reduces water use and can provide yield benefits to growers. 

    CQUniversity is located in the centre of a largely agricultural region.

    Choices Applied Theatre Program

    ‘Choices' is an applied theatre program that has been in operation for over 11 years. It was developed by staff and students of CQUniversity in conjunction with several Government agencies (Queensland Health, Queensland Police Service, Department of Communities and Queensland transport) and with input from the Queensland Ambulance service and Whitsunday Schoolies Advisory Committee to address the risk taking activities of young people celebrating the completion of Year 12 in what is known as ‘schoolies'.

    Their trip to the Gold Coast on November 25-26 has been supported by bursaries funded by the Mackay Financial Planning Career Development Group (MFPCDG), in partnership with CQUniversity.
