Rain and moderate wind gusts from Cyclone Beni put CQU staff on Red Alert this week.

The alert came as Beni hovered about 600km east of Mackay and threatened to move inland.

A small piece of history has been made in regard to magic knight\\\'s tours by a Central Queensland University academic, Tim Roberts.

Mr Roberts recently discovered two new magic knight’s tours, the first new tours to be found since 1988, and the first irregular tours found since 1936.

There has plenty of action at Bundaberg Central Queensland University in the past few days with preparations well underway for the Women In Research conference and “The Creation Series” art exhibition.

The exhibition showcasing Bundaberg artist Christine Turner’s work was hung in Building One under the watchful eye of curator Joan Winter.

Bundaberg local Christopher Luthe will start his university life with an extra $2000 in his bank account after winning a Central Queensland University scholarship.

After completing his year 12 studies at Bundaberg Shalom College last year Christopher is ready to start a Bachelor Informatics majoring in Information Technology and Applied Physics at Central Queensland University’s Bundaberg campus.

A Biology and Chemistry Summer School is being held at Bundaberg’s Central Queensland University from Monday 17 February to Thursday 20 February.

The course was first offered 12 years ago after a survey of CQU Introductory Science students identified the need for a preparatory course.

Childers mother Tanya Chew finished her high school studies 13 years ago and in the back of her mind yearned for a career in science.

Instead she found herself employed as a bank teller and full-time mother of four children.

It was with regret that the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems recently farewelled a popular and long-serving member of staff, Bapu Seshaprasad (Sesha).

Sesha’s professional field of expertise, namely, computer based power system modelling and simulation has been put to good use during his lecturing career, which has spanned 15 years.

Ken Dooley, Senior Lecturer in the School of Management has recently returned from six months sabbatical leave in Sweden.

"It all seems like six months zipped up now," Ken said, on his return to Australia and CQU.

Postgraduate student at the PELM Centre Ratikanta Sahoo (Rati) graduated with a Masters degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in 2000 with first class honours and came to Australia in January 2001 to complete his PhD at Central Queensland University.

He was selected from a large number of applicants for the Gladstone Port Authority's PhD Scholarship, which is entitled "Measurement and Prevention of Coal Degradation during Handling in Gladstone Port Circuit".

A registration of interest for procurement training, assessment and associated administrative services has recently been lodged with the South Australian Government.

Central Queensland University Academic Coordinator for the project, Ken Dooley has since met with three representatives from the South Australian Government to discuss the proposal.
