Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    What do you get when you cross 55 Year 10 students, two engineers and lots and lots of pieces of the constructional toy K’nex? You get a lot of fun, a little frustration and the annual Siemens Science Experience.

    Tailored for students entering Year 10, the three-day science experience was held at CQU from Tuesday January 21 to Thursday January 23 and involved local as well as out of town students.

  • Psychology student secures cadetship

    A Central Queensland University second-year psychology student has been awarded a National Indigenous Cadetship.

    Sarah Lippitt said she would be sponsored by Centrelink for the duration of her course, have all university fees paid, would receive a weekly salary and would work with psychologists at an organisation during holidays.

  • Scholarships offered at Emerald

    Central Queensland University Emerald, which gears up for orientation on 26 and 27 February, has announced a new round of scholarships for 2003.

    Two awards, collectively sponsored by the Emerald Shire council, Ashby McDonnell, Maundrell and CQU, are available to full-time students studying business at the campus, according to Associate Professor John Rolfe.

    CQU Emerald campus staff and Golden Key members had been collecting non-perishable food items and small toys for their Adopt-A-Family.

    CQU Health Lecturer Dr Anthony Wheeler allowed 33 students to dissect heart and lungs from steers to support evidence gathered from monitoring the students’ heart and blood rate.

    Central Queensland University’s Professor Elizabeth Taylor has been appointed chairperson to the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland, making her the first woman to be appointed to the position.

    Professor Taylor is the Dean of the University’s Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems.
