Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A CQUniversity student's ambition of a career in mechanical engineering became one step closer this week with the announcement of the annual Queensland Alumina Limited/CQUniversity Scholarship.

    Former Tannum Sands State High school student Joshua Ward was awarded the scholarship, which provides $5000 per annum to defray costs while undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) degree.

    North Queensland high school students will have a unique opportunity to work with (and be mentored by) talented staff and students from CQUniversity's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM).

    Coordinated by Mackay CQCM lecturer Kim Kirkman, Showtime workshops are taking place in Townsville and Ingham between August 14-15 and are designed for students wanting to sing, dance or act in theatre.

    CQUniversity academics Dr Rose-Marie Thrupp (Learning and Innovation, Bundaberg Campus), Professor Jennelle Kyd (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Rockhampton Campus) and Dr Anna Thomas (Institute for Resource Industries, IRIS, Rockhampton Campus) will be involved in the next 'Science in Parliament' event, scheduled for Wednesday, August 19 in Brisbane.

    These researchers will be involved in group discussion over lunch with MPs and fellow researchers.

    Today (Thursday) featured Metamorphosis and Blue Moods while, earlier in the week, listeners enjoyed Chill Factor, Swing Cats, Rubber Biscuit, Hat Trick and UJump.
