- Drug banned by sports may be good for oldies

A world-first pilot study suggests that anabolic steroids, best known for doping in sports, may in fact help older people recover better after joint replacement surgery.
Associate Professor Erik Hohmann hopes to extend the initial pilot into a larger study after finding benefits for recuperating patients, even though only low doses of the drug were used to avoid side effects.

CQU is encouraging classes of primary school pupils to express their appreciation of science in the broader community and their everyday lives via a single snapshot.
As part of its celebration of Science Week 2006, due to be celebrated in August, CQU's Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health is conducting a photo competition for pupils in the Fitzroy – Central West, Mackay – Whitsunday and Wide Bay – Burnett regions.

- Campus area roped off after parthenium weed discovery

With the recent discovery of a small area of parthenium weed seedlings at CQU Rockhampton, control measures have been implemented in accordance with government recommendations.
The area has been roped off to prevent the entry of people or machinery, and the entire area has been sprayed, using recommended herbicides.

Millions of radio listeners throughout Queensland have been primed by on-air promotions ahead of this month's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Statewide jazz tour in association with ABC Local Radio.
The Mackay-based musicians and their VIP guest stars will also be heard during a live Statewide ABC Radio broadcast on the evening of June 15 (from the Gladstone leg of the tour).

Their acting lecturer Mr Peter Ross is back on campus after recently receiving news that he will be the resident director for the Australian production of the 'Boy From Oz', which stars Aussie heart throb, Hugh Jackman.

Central Queensland University has held a Going Home Ceremony for about 50 international students from 13 different nations.
The students are from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Fiji, Mexico, Vietnam, India, Israel, Germany, USA and Sweden.

World leader in the research, development and evaluation of online learning materials and services, Professor Diana Laurillard will be visiting CQU to present a seminar and colloquium on the requirements and strategies of online learning on Tuesday June 13, prior to presenting at the Lifelong learning conference.
Professor Laurillard is currently the Chair of Learning with Digital Technologies at the London Knowledge Lab, part of the Institute of Education, University of London.
