Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Aurelia Ginevra – Division Manager, AIC Graduations, Melbourne International Campus – recently caught up with CQU graduates, Jorge Fernando Vasquez and Kabir Jabbal, recipients of the Campus Awards for Leadership at CQU Melbourne.

    Jorge Fernando Vasquez completed a Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering and seven years’ experience in industry in Chile prior to attending CQU Melbourne.

  • The world is your contaminant-sensitive oyster

    Contaminant-sensitive oysters are being used to monitor changes in water quality at Port Curtis near Gladstone in a collaborative project involving Coastal CRC scientists from Central Queensland University and Griffith University.

    “Specially farmed oysters are being located in cages to a number of sites in the harbour,” said Don Alcock, Communication Manager, Coastal CRC.

    A group of 57 Tannum Sands State High School musicians attended master classes at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music recently.

    As part of an annual four-day tour, the concert band and string ensemble students were given instruction from CQCM lecturers Ian Bofinger and Derrin Kerr.

  • Nursing approved to 2009 with commendation

    CQU's status as a provider of nursing education has been granted unconditional approval to continue to 2009, thanks to success in a Queensland Nursing Council review process.

    The QNC also issued a commendation for the high standard of CQU's submission and asked to use it as an example.

  • Bundaberg academic now a movie composer

    CQU Bundaberg academic Dr Karl Neuenfeldt's interest in the music of the Torres Strait has led to a credit on a new surfing movie.

    Dr Neuenfeldt co-wrote a song called 'Somewhere There's An Island', which is performed by Seaman Dan on the soundtrack of Blue Horizon.
