Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU has signed up under the Macromedia Australia and New Zealand University Licensing Program, which will ensure that the University is correctly licensed and that all staff has the tools necessary to teach and create eLearning and Internet business applications. The agreement is effective for 12 months from 11 March 2003 to 11 March 2004.

    Three first-year Mackay engineering students were among those who received scholarships via video-conferencing links with Rockhampton and Gladstone CQU campuses recently.

    CQU Bachelor of Engineering (Co-Op) students Cameron Domotor, Brendan Peach and Nicholas Weiske were each awarded $1000, with selection based on outstanding Year 12 English, Physics and Maths results.

    In an Australian first, CQU engineering student Tim Heron will gain industry experience at leading coal companies RAG and DBT in Germany and study at the prestigious Aachen University of Technology.
