Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Self-review starts preparations - Quality update

    An organisational self-review will be the first major preparation in the lead-up to the Australian University Quality Agency (AUQA) audit of Central Queensland University.

    Scheduled for October, 2005, the Australian University Quality Agency (AUQA) audit of CQU will look at the University’s quality assurance processes and will be released to the public, therefore it is necessary that the University has clear quality assurance processes and systems documented and implemented prior to the audit.

    Staff, students and interested community members are all welcome to attend a Human Rights Day function featuring an address by Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Susan Booth.

    Ms Booth will address the theme 'Indigenous Cultural Rights are Human Rights' during the function from noon on Friday, December 10, at CQU Rockhampton's Harvard Lecture Theatre (bldg 32 G18).

  • Emerald lecturer a scholarship winner

    Emerald teacher and CQU lecturer Kathy Sheppard has been awarded a $25,000 scholarship to further study the art of learning.

    Kathy Sheppard, from Emerald State High School, was among five teachers to gain a Premier's Smart State Teacher Excellence Scholarship.

    Central Queensland University grabbed the attention of Malaysia's Minister for Higher Education, Mr Datuk Shafie Salleh, at last month's Austrade Study in Australia Education Exhibition, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    Impressed by the University's capital city campuses and multiple intakes a year, CQU's exhibit was one of only a few sites that Mr Datuk Salleh visited during the expo.

    Central Queensland University, one of Australia’s youngest tertiary institutions, will graduate one of its oldest accounting students at a graduation ceremony in Hong Kong this Saturday, November 6.

    Mr Kwok Leung Lee - a 60-year-old, former Hong Kong Government employee - retired from work five years ago and instead of settling down to the normal retiree activities of newspaper reading, chess and collectibles, he decided to enhance his academic achievements with an accounting degree.
