Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Real 'logic' behind grant-winning SNAPIT invention

    Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has announced CQU nursing graduate and emergency nurse Glen Riverstone as being 1 of the State’s top innovators, awarding him $85,000 to help develop his SNAPIT invention.

    Mr Riverstone’s newly-formed company River Logic was among 5 recipients in the latest round of grants under the Queensland Government Innovation Start-Up Scheme.

    Updates included the organisational restructure, the trend towards cooperative (industry-relevant) education, the reinvigoration of courses, new research foci, and measures to attract additional international students to Rockhampton (as well as at other locations).

  • CQ region health workers have new professional development service

    Health workers throughout Central Queensland will have less need to travel to Brisbane for their professional development, thanks to a new service from CQU.

    The University has started a Professional Nursing and Continuing Education Centre, which aims to provide monthly courses delivered by specialists in a variety of fields.

    Uni Skills comprises a variety of workshops including academic writing skills, mathematics, science, study skills, library research skills and introductory computing.

  • CQU professor promotes 'food from the roof'

    CQU's Professor David Midmore (pictured below) was an invited speaker for the inaugural meeting of Green Roofs for Healthy Australian Cities, during a conference on Green Roofs for Australia at the Brisbane Technology Park in Brisbane recently (Feb 22-23).

    The conference attracted speakers from the US, Canada and most Australian states with presentations on the energy-saving, water-conserving, and biodiversity-promoting benefits of green roofs (roofs that are covered to some degree by vegetation).

  • CQU graduate new CEO for Energex

    Congratulations to CQU graduate Terry Effeney who has been chosen as the new CEO for Energex.

    Mr Effeney, who has a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from CQU, was previously Chief Operating Officer for Ergon Energy.

    The Showcase included keynote speaker Dr Gary Poole from the University of British Columbia, Canada; a student panel discussion; presentations by CQU staff and academics from elsewhere in Australia; and a debate on the teaching-research nexus.
