Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Adrian Yarrow, Manager - Corporate Systems, will be involved in round table discussions and will be called on to deliver a presentation on CQU's use of HP technology.

    CQU Press publisher Professor David Myers this week announced that the Press had again won an award of $8000 from the Literature Board of the Australia Council for 2006-2007.

    "These are hotly contested and very prestigious awards won against nationwide competition," he said.

  • Chinese and Spanish classes resume at Language Centre

    The CQU Rockhampton Language Centre will be running Chinese and Spanish classes again in Term 2.

    The classes are scheduled to start in the week beginning on July 10 and are expected to run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

  • CQU undertakes Post Office maintenance work

    Central Queensland University is this week starting to undertake maintenance work and a stonework audit on the fagade of the Old Post Office in East Street.

    This is preliminary work, costing around $1 million, ahead of a decision on the timing of large-scale renovations to the heritage-listed building.

    Neal Ashkanasy is Professor of Management in the Business School at the University of Queensland, and Research Director for the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law.

    CQU is providing sponsorship, $3000 worth of scholarships and a performance venue for the inaugural SunWater and Stanwell Winter Music School to be held next week in Rockhampton (June 2-8).

    The Statewide music school features the Southern Cross Soloists, supported by some of the finest musicians and teachers in Australia.

  • Hundreds of gauges help Kartik see the good from the trees

    PhD candidate Kartik Venkatraman monitors hundreds of gauges, sensors and probes measuring dozens of different parameters in order to track the performance of 21 native tree species growing in 2 different soil depths at the Rockhampton landfill.

    The project is trying to define the best mix of trees and soil depth to reduce leaching of water and methane emission from the rubbish below ground.
