Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Two CQU students celebrated the completion of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tertiary Entry Program (TEP) at a ceremony at Central Queensland University Rockhampton this week.

    Meredith Crump and John Rutherford successfully completed the TEP program which prepares indigenous students for university study.

  • CQU co-presents demonstration of new knee surgery technique

    CQU's Musculoskeletal Research Unit is co-presenter for live surgery and a workshop symposium on a new ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) technique.

    The technique will be demonstrated on Friday, September 8, by German Professor Andreas Imhoff, who is Europe's leading sports orthopaedic surgeon and a world leader in shoulder surgery.

  • STEPS teacher awarded $10,000 for top job

    Central Queensland University lecturer Jenny Simpson was awarded with a $10,000 Carrick award for an outstanding contribution to student learning, at a ceremony at Customs House in Brisbane last week.

    Jenny was specifically commended for “creating an inspirational learning and teaching environment that instils marginalised learners with the self-confidence, skills and knowledge to embark on a university education”.

    For 3 years in row, Central Queensland University has received 5 stars and placed among the highest rated universities in Australia for Positive Graduate Outcomes and International Enrolments according to the just-released Good Universities Guide (Undergraduate) 2007.

    The University also rated very highly (4 out of 5 stars) for Teaching Quality, Getting a Job, and Graduate Starting Salaries.
