While Australia’s top athletes are currently in Manchester competing in the Commonwealth Games, CQU Melbourne International Campus students have just finished contending their first Southern University Games.

Held in Bendigo and hosted by La Trobe University, Melbourne students competed against 1200 students from 16 Universities and TAFE Colleges from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

Two of Australia’s finest musical talents are coming to town! Nyree Klip, country music star and Blaine Whittaker, saxophonist extraordinaire, will perform at the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day on Sunday 11 August.

Singer songwriter, Nyree Klip is a graduate of the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

In the competitive job-seeking world, Central Queensland University Information Technology students are being given ‘the edge’ at free workshops designed to help them into their career of choice.

The workshops, entitled ‘Maximising Your Chances’, are being held at CQU campuses in Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg during September for all students studying information technology.

The Community Technology Day planned for 26 August, 2002, is a community-based event focusing on how technology affects those who live in regional areas, and how to best face those challenges.

The Community Technology day, part of the Information Technology in Regional Areas (ITiRA) Conference 2002, aims to “remove the fear factor in computing for everyone,” said organiser Kevin Tharp.

Talented teen Liz McNally is extending her skills in acting, song and dance thanks to the Bachelor of Performing Arts degree offered in Rockhampton by the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM).

During her North Rockhampton High School days, Liz starred in Little Shop of Horrors and Wizard of Oz and was a regular Eisteddfod competitor in the vocal sections.

Several thousand school students, parents and others interested in new careers gathered at the Community Sports Centre on Tuesday.

More than 30,000 people are expected to converge on the Rockhampton Campus of Central Queensland University (CQU) to attend the Community Event of the Year: the 10th annual Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day, on Sunday 11 August 2002.

Despite confusion that the annual event had been cancelled, organiser Gina Yarrow said the event is going to be one of the biggest the University and ABC, with support from The Morning Bulletin, have delivered.

Dancing the world over for princes and paupers, Nicholai von Tonslamann and Tony Widjaya, bring their exuberant dance interpretations to the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair on Sunday 11 August.

“If you experience the music and dance of another culture, you’ll begin to understand it’s people,” says Nicholai, a veteran folk dancer who’s studied and performed for 30 years in Europe, Africa and Asia.
