Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Rockhampton will once again host Relay for Life, on May 19-20 next year on behalf of the Queensland Cancer Fund.

    Relay For Life is an overnight team event to raise funds for cancer research, education and patient support programs.

    Professor Midmore recently completed a 2-week visit to the Philippines and Vietnam, with Dr Robin Marsh of University of California Berkeley Campus.

    Two of the new Heads of Campus are coming from similar positions overseas, while the other is already a Head of Campus within the CQU network.

  • Sydney hosts Care Australia fundraiser

    CQU Sydney International Campus and CARE Australia recently arranged a morning tea fundraiser, as part of the World Hunger Campaign bid to promote awareness and urge the public to help hungry children and families.

    This initiative was successfully coordinated by TECC Manager Suzana Vicentijevic who organised Brumby’s (one of the partners of the CARE Australia campaign) to provide academics and staff with a delicious morning breakfast and gift bag.

    CQU Sydney academics David Fox and Noel Ross have contributed an article titled 'Water is Too Cheap' for the Economics Society of Australia (NSW Branch) newsletter.

    Dr Fox, senior lecturer in economics and finance, and lecturer Noel Ross provided a detailed outline on the scarcity of water in Australia and ways to solve this limited supply.

    CQU hosted the one-day symposium on the intersections, divergences, tensions and contradictions in Western, Eastern and Indigenous beliefs about inner and outer peace, creaturely existence and reconciliation.

  • PhD student broadcasts plight of reef

    CQU PhD student Alison Jones has been busy bringing the plight of the Keppel section of the Great Barrier Reef to TV viewers and radio listeners around Australia.

    Ms Jones, who also works for the Australian Institute of Marine Science, has been one of the key interview subjects in Channel 7 TV's coverage of global warming and coral bleaching.

  • Health message 'no bull' for CQU nurses

    CQU's School of Nursing and Health Studies has contributed to a breast screening awareness campaign by decorating one of Rockhampton's famous bulls (the one near Red Hill shopping precinct).

    'Nursabull', which has featured on ABC State TV News and WIN TV News, was a project driven by staff members including CQU's Vicki Taylor, Jenny Anastasi and Dr Trudy Dwyer.
