Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Hawkins contributes to Olympic evaluation

    Professor Ken Hawkins, based at CQU Melbourne, is a co-contributor to a new research paper evaluating the Atlanta, Sydney and Athens Olympics - in particular the opening ceremonies.

    Professor Hawkins also helped carry out participant observations for the Sydney leg of the research.

    CQU final-year Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) students celebrated (Oct 12) the conclusion of their degree program with an afternoon to share the final learning tasks with their prospective employers, teaching staff at the University and invited guests.

    Dr Helen Huntly (Sub-Dean Bundaberg) welcomed students and guests to this event which showcased demonstrations of entrepreneurial professionals in practice.

    The Central Queensland University Student Association staged its annual CQU Student Association presentation evening last Saturday (October 9).

    More than 100 people attended the formal dinner (at the CQU Rockhampton Campus BirdCage Bar) which recognised the outstanding academic and sporting efforts of more than 30 students.

  • Biomechanics lecturer wins 'best young investigator' award

    CQU School of Health and Human Performance Biomechanics lecturer Adam Bryant has won the 'ASICS Best Young Investigator' award at the annual Sports Medicine Australia national conference held in Alice Springs recently.

    Head of School Dr Peter Reaburn said Mr Bryant had tasted success at the 2003 conference, with the 'Best Clinical Poster' award.

  • Columbian education officials visit

    Three leading officials from Columbia’s education system have visited CQU Rockhampton and Gladstone campuses this week to explore links and exchanges with Queensland institutions.

    The delegation includes the Vice-Chancellor of Columbia’s Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, the Executive Director of Columbia’s International Studies Advisory Services (ISAS), and the Director of International Relations for ICETEX (the Columbian Government organisation involved in financing higher education and advising students wishing to study overseas).

  • Lecturer devises 'flashy' festival entry

    CQU Bundaberg multimedia lecturer Grayson Cooke, from the School of Contemporary Communication, has produced a digital installation for this week's Bundaberg Arts Festival.

    Mr Cooke has collaborated with Dea Morgain to produce the installation called 'Still Burning Mountain'.

  • Dr Gallie elected to national safety education role

    Dr Karen Gallie, a recent arrival to CQU's School of Health and Human Performance, has been elected inaugural President of the Safety Institute of Australia's (SIA) Educator Chapter.

    Dr Gallie said Occupational Health and Safety was going through a crucial period.

    As members of 'The Calendar Girls' team, they have bared their bodies (albiet behind strategically placed props) for the cause.

  • Labor pledge to upgrade Engineering facilities
