Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A 14-year-old chess player from Biloela in Central Queensland may have made his biggest move yet by beginning university study while still in school.

    Biloela State High School year 10 student Jacob Petersen may be just starting to learn about algebra and biology at school, but the high achiever is also studying business computing and human anatomy at Central Queensland University (CQU) this year.

    Visiting scholar Dr Philip Morgan has been helping CQU staff achieve a systematic approach to underpin student learning which is motivating and engaging.

    Hosted by CQU's Academic Staff Development Unit, Dr Morgan has been explaining how lecturers can improve evaluation processes to gather evidence about their teaching effectiveness from multiple perspectives, including students and peers.

    Central Queensland University staff and students took part in a Power Engineering Alliance (PEA) networking function at Rockhampton's Ergon Energy recently (March 19).

    The function gave PEA bursary holders the chance to talk about their studies and work placements.

  • Uni well represented at Harmony Day celebrations

    Rockhampton's Riverside Park came alive with the recent Capricornia Harmony Day Umbrella Festival held on Easter Saturday and many of CQU's staff and students were there to contribute to the celebrations in more ways than one.

    Community Relations Officer Glenys Kirkwood, invited to be a judge for the day, was given the almost impossible job of helping to judge the most popular Decorated Umbrella competition from around 200 entries submitted under the 'Peace & Harmony' or 'Environmental' theme in categories covering Schools, Businesses, Traditional and others.

    Eric came with his 3 kelpie dogs and 8 sheep and they wowed the audience with their skills.

  • Graduate releases debut country album

    CQU marketing graduate and MBA student Kimber Sparks, from CQU Gold Coast, has released her debut album entitled It's Her Turn - a country music album of original songs which features the single Nowhere to Go.

    The album follows Kimber's previous EP Go Get EM Girl, which produced 3 chart singles and video clips.
