Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU supports launch of Disability Action Week

    An official launch for Disability Action Week was held in the Community Sports Centre at CQU Rockhampton on Monday, thanks to University sponsorship.

    CQU, through the Equity and Diversity Office and the Regional Disability Liaison Officer initiative, has been active in the planning and conduct of Action Week activities for several years.

    School students from Japanese Sister City Ibusuki, will visit Rockhampton this month.

    Rockhampton City Council Acting Mayor Cr Jim Webber said the students, who would be based at Central Queensland University’s Language Centre for English Classes, would spend 12 days touring Rockhampton and Central Queensland.

  • Litster on the road again as tourism judge

    Despite being on secondment to the Division of Teaching and Learning Services, Jillian Litster has arranged to continue her commitment to the Queensland Tourism Awards on behalf of the Faculty of Business & Law.

    In addition to tourism industry workshops in the Whitsundays and Rockhampton conducted during May, Jillian will also undertake site inspections and two weeks of panel judging as part of the awards process.

    CQU Research Fellow Dr Susan Rees has issued a statement on behalf of the Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) network, reacting cautiously to changes to visa arrangements.

    Dr Rees said the visa changes would allow more than 9000 Temporary Protection Visa holders to apply for permanent residency in Australia.

    That is according to CQU academic Dr Jeannette Delamoir whose research interests include Australians in early Hollywood and the ‘freak show’ discourse about stars in today’s magazines.

  • Japanese-speaking students compete in Rockhampton

    About 30 Japanese-speaking students will compete in Rockhampton this weekend as part of the Meikai ~ Asahi ~ Central Queensland University Fifth Annual Japanese Speaking Festival.

    The competition, open to all Australian resident Year 10, 11 and 12 students and immersion students of Japanese, has attracted entries from Brisbane, Townsville, Mackay, Biloela and Rockhampton.
