Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Grants spur on PhD research in Rockhampton

    A Central Queensland University School of Management PhD student has received a $15,000 State Government grant to research economic impacts of declining water quality on the Great Barrier Reef.

    Prabha Prayaga was one of two CQU students to receive the funding from the Growing the Smart State PhD funding program, administered by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, to pursue their research interests.

  • Neuenfeldt helps preserve Rotuma Island songs

    CQU Associate Professor Karl Neuenfeldt has helped preserve traditional songs from Rotuma Island, a Fijian dependency.

    Dr Neuenfeldt helped record a CD entitled 'Rotuman Hymns and Chants', working in collaboration with the island's Churchwood Chapel Choir and the Oceania Centre for Arts and Culture.

  • Cryle contributes to CQ Constitutional Convention

    CQU academic Dr Denis Cryle will contribute to the Central Queensland Constitutional Convention due to be held this Friday (February 17) in Rockhampton.

    Dr Cryle, from the School of Contemporary Communication, will contribute a 45-minute address on what the Constitution says about State/Federal relationships.

    The specially designed seminar captured staff members from CQU International, Student Administration, Student Services and the faculties who will be handling new international student arrivals.

    CQU Rockhampton is the venue for weed recognition training arranged via the National Weed Detection Project.

    Queensland Herbarium senior botanist John Thompson will give weed spotters the skills and knowledge to identify a number of weeds in the Rockhampton region.
