Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Library compiles 40th anniversary display

    All interested people are welcome to visit CQU Rockhampton Library to look over a display compiled to mark the institution's 40th anniversary.

    The display operating until the end of January features photos of pioneering staff and students, academic events and early shots of the campus grounds and buildings.

  • CQU adjunct 'lands' World Bank project

    CQU Adjunct Professor of Property Terry Boyd is working as the International Advisor on Education Strategy and Professional Development on the Land Administration and Management Project Stage 2, a joint Philippines and Australia project funded by the World Bank and AusAid.

    The LAMP2 project aims to alleviate poverty through secure land tenure and equitable property valuation.

  • Scholarships offer relief for Mackay students

    Recent school leaver and Mirani teenager Kristine Conlan has applied to study a Bachelor of Engineering at CQU Mackay in 2008 and she's hoping to be a recipient of one of seven $4000 CQU Mackay/Hail Creek scholarships.

    Kristine first discovered she wanted to be an Engineer when she became involved in a ‘Girls in Technology' workshop at the Mackay campus with Dr Fae Martin, Coordinator of the Engineering Co-op program.

  • Uni benefactor still sparking interest in science

    Central Queensland University benefactor Dr John Lambert-Smith is still sparking interest in science, more than a quarter-century after starting a 'Science in Schools' program.

    The former Callide Power Station employee (Chemist-Water Management & Environmental Officer) and long-time supporter of the University is also renowned as a 'Science Mentor', who this year created a Green Energy educational program for Mt Murchison School (a Queensland school of excellence).

  • Graduate wins Young Engineer Award

    CQU graduate Brett Cagney has received the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) Queensland Division's Young Engineer Award for 2007.

    Mr Cagney is Rockhampton City Council's infrastructure planning engineer and RCC acting CEO Neil Hanschen has praised him for participating in the Whole of Council Asset Management (WOCAM) strategy, which won the Engineering Excellence Award in the Asset Management category last year.

  • Vieth awarded after years of strife on the ocean waves

    CQU Associate Professor Errol Vieth has been awarded the National Medal for service to the Volunteer Coastguard.

    Member for Capricornia Kirsten Livermore recently presented the Medal to the School of Arts and Creative Enterprise academic on behalf of the Governor-General.
